Emergency Dental Care FAQs

How can I prevent dental emergencies?

  • Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups
  • Brush and floss daily to maintain good oral hygiene
  • Avoid chewing ice, pens, or very hard foods
  • Wear a mouthguard if you play contact sports

Should I go to A&E for a dental emergency?

Only go to A&E for serious issues such as:

  • Severe facial swelling or trauma
  • Bleeding that doesn’t stop
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing

For most dental problems, contact us directly.

What should I do if I knock out a tooth?

  • Handle the tooth by the crown (top part), not the root.
  • If it’s clean, try to gently place it back into the socket.
  • If not, store it in milk or saliva (not water).
  • See a dentist urgently, ideally within 30–60 minutes.

What should I do if I lose a crown or filling?

This is usually not urgent unless you’re in pain. You can:

  • Use temporary dental cement from a pharmacy
  • Avoid chewing on that side
  • Book a dental appointment with us as soon as possible to have it repaired
